Adoption of the International Code Council 2009 Codes
and the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code

In October, 2009, The City of Trussville Council passed Ordinance #2009-027-E&I which adopts the International Code Councils (ICC) 2009 Codes and the National Fire Protection Administrations 2009 Life Safety Code. The following codes are those adopted:

International Building Code - 2009 Edition, except Section 903.2.8*
International Residential Code - 2009 Edition, except Section 313.2*
International Existing Building Code - 2009 Edition
International Fire Code - 2009 Edition, except Section 903.2.8*
International Fuel Gas Code - 2009 Edition
International Mechanical Code - 2009 Edition
International Plumbing Code - 2009 Edition
International Property Maintenance Code - 2009 Edition
NEC / NFPA 70 National Electric Code - 2008 Edition
NFPA 101 Life Safety Code - 2009 Edition, except for Section 24.3.5.2*

*Single family dwellings, three stories or less are except from providing automatic sprinkler systems.

When the ICC decided to add the residential sprinkler systems to the new codes, they also decided to remove some of the prior restrictions from the code. These older restrictions were no long need, since the houses would now have a sprinkler system. However, since we decided to except the residential sprinkler requirements from the adoption, we had to go back and reinstated several of those prior requirements. This adoption was accomplished in a new City Ordinance.
