The fire department has a
confined space team that is trained to perform rescue and recoveries of
victims that have become trapped in a confined space. A question that is
asked, “What is a confined space?” the answer is any space that prevents a
person from being able to exit under there own power. Examples of these
types of situations could be swimming pool without water, underground pipes,
or enclosed tanks.
Our department has been
building a growing cache of equipment due to the technical requirements of
these situations. Rescuers must have knowledge of hazardous materials, air
monitoring, packaging patients, and rope rescue procedures.
Biannually our department
trains with Amerex Corporation in a real time response and rescue. This has
been very beneficial for team members to practice skills and procedures for
a safe rescue.
